Its interesting how we as a society allow data collection to an extreme degree. Due to companies complying with data requests we can see what they're legally required to give us. Imagine how far they could probably go with much more information. Arguably there is probably some element of "Well I won't be the person being investigated personally, its just going into a system". But imagine the amount of things you've admitted publicly online and how many keywords you could probably scrape to create a full profile on you. If you want to have a fun time I recommend reading through the privacy policy of any social media or app. Seriously half of them include every message you've sent, how you've interacted with a post/message, and anyone you are associated with. It really sucks how often people just click through a company's policies especially ones that are easy to read and comprehend. Because I imagine if people were required to approve of each term regarding data usage or forced arbitration they'd probably have more opinions on them. But since most of them can either be skipped or most people wish to get through them and speed through reading them it feels like nobody wants to discuss them. Then there is the whole issue of data being used not to curate a better experience for the user, rather the data is being used to create a better experience for corporate owners
You'll notice how tons of social medias went from asking just for your username to wanting to add profile pictures (of you) and real names and real friends so you can "stay in contact". Every platform wishes to add communication elements and homogenize just so you can want to provide data points on THEIR platform.
On another topic why are people self-censoring on platforms? In fear of the ominous "shadow ban" since apparently content creators where getting "banned" for certain speech. What really happened is that content creators were being demonitized or shown to less users due to them depicting content that was deemed unfriendly to advertisers. Now either we can get mad at content creators for chasing money or views over actually showing content or get mad at Youtube and advertisers for censoring basic human language or content just barely outside of their adult puritanfriendly audience.
